Royal College Council

The Royal College is governed by a Council chaired by its President. The Immediate Past-President or President-Elect (whichever of the two is in office) is also entitled to attend meetings of Council.

Council consists of twenty-four members who are elected, by the Royal College Fellows, based on place of residency and the five main regions of Canada according to a set formula. The election process is described in full in article 11.2 of Royal College Bylaw 18.

Council may also appoint a maximum of two Fellows-at-large and five public members. These members are appointed to complement the skills and perspectives of the elected members of Council. As future Fellows of the Royal College, residents are also assured a voice on Council with the appointment of a specialty resident member by Council. The resident member is invited to speak impartially on issues affecting all residents.

President

Cecil Rorabeck - President - London, ON Dr. Cecil H. Rorabeck, OC, MD, FRCSC, a native of North Bay, Ontario, is a former orthopedic surgeon at London Health Sciences Centre and a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery [emeritus] at The University of Western Ontario (Western). Past President

Louis Francescutti - Past President - Sherwood Park, AB Louis Hugo Francescutti, MD, PhD, MPH, FRCPC, FACPM, FACP(Hon), FRCPI, FRCP(Edin), began his two-year term as president on October 18, 2010.
