The National Physician Survey is Canada's most comprehensive and authoritative survey of the total population of physicians in Canada—practicing family doctors and other specialists — as well as medical residents and all medical students. Data collected on a regular basis helps shape public policy, guide educators, and professional associations, and shed light on our dynamic health care sector.
The NPS is a collaboration between the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Medical Association and the Royal College.
The NPS primer series
The Royal College is pleased to introduce the National Physician Survey primer series, a collection of in-depth primers that analyze trends from the NPS, a unique source of information on medical workforce issues that are top-of-mind in many quarters.
Given recent publications on physicians’ hours of work, this primer covers key 2007 NPS highlights concerning this issue, including important influences that affect physician work hours and anticipated changes in work patterns.
This edition of the NPS Primer focuses on generational trends among specialists, including family physicians (FPs/GPs), concerning work settings and locations, and impediments to care.
