Safeguarding the quality of medical education and the workforce

The proliferation of non-traditional sites for medical education and health care delivery challenge our current heath care system’s ability to provide a suitable case-mix for residents, quality assurance, support for basic and clinical research, and ensured access to the highest standards of care. Acknowledging these challenges but also recognizing the growing reality of greater private involvement in the healthcare system, the College’s statement outlines a number of recommendations, all underscored by the College’s support for Canada’s public health care system and the principles enunciated in the Canada Health Act.

The College’s recommendations suggest ways to keep certain measures in place that ensure the highest standards of teaching, research and quality of care, and an equitable distribution of physician human resources.
