Reviewing the state of Canadian health care before the Canadian senate
The Royal College appeared as a witness before the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology in October 2011 to present its views on the progress of the 2004 ten-year plan to strengthen health care and recommendations to improve it. Andrew Padmos, BA, MD, FRCPC, FACP, CEO, and Danielle Fréchette, MPA, director of the Office of Health Policy, appeared as witnesses before the committee to review the current state of our health care system and proffer recommendations to improve it.
Sharing injury prevention practices with the Standing Committee on Health
President Louis H. Francescutti, MD, PhD, MPH, FRCPC, FACPM, CCFP, FACP(Hon), ICD.D, submitted a brief by invitation on injury prevention to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health in December 2010. Titled, Injuries are not accidents — they are a preventable disease, the brief highlights leading practices in injury prevention that are proven to save lives, improve the well-being of Canadians, cut hospital visits and reduce health-care costs.
Indentifying health care priorities to the Standing Committee on Finance
The Royal College submitted a brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance in August 2010 to identify priorities in health care that will contribute to a healthier society, better patient care, enhanced systems, improved productivity and reduce the challenges and burdens facing physicians and surgeons. The submission titled Bridging the Gap, Building Collaborative Foundations for an Effective and Efficient Health Care System, covers areas that build foundations; it focuses on solutions for delivering high-quality patient care and the system that delivers it.

In April 2009, the Royal College appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health to provide crucial input into this committee's deliberations on issues and trends affecting the provision of health human resources across the continuum of care.
