2012 Program Director of the Year Award

This award is given annually to a program director who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing residency education as evidenced by innovation and impact beyond his/her program.

Eligibility:

• A current program director of a residency program accredited by the RCPSC.
• Individuals may be re-nominated in subsequent years, however, previous winners of the award will not be eligible to win again.

Nominations:

• Nominations may be submitted by program directors, deans, postgraduate deans, or department chairs/division director.
• Self-applications are ineligible.

Submissions:

• Nominations must be submitted by completing the official award application form and include:
• Nomination letter addressing every element of the criteria listed below.
• A second letter of support from a resident (current or recently graduated).
• Curriculum vitae of the candidate.

• All nominations MUST be submitted as a single PDF document in the following order:

NOTE: Incomplete or improperly formatted submissions will not be accepted.

• Nominations must be submitted electronically to The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada at icreawards@royalcollege.ca.

Selection:

• Applications for this award are adjudicated by a sub-committee of the Awards Committee of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Criteria:

• Demonstrated commitment to innovation in residency education.
• Has had a lasting impact on the quality of residency education and measurable outcomes beyond their program.
• Evidence of effective leadership and mentorship ability.
• Embodies/integrates the CanMEDS Roles.
• Strong track record for promoting ethics, reflection and humanism in residency education.

Award:

• Up to two awards will be presented annually. Award winners will receive a plaque recognizing their contribution as well as travel and registration to the ICRE conference.
