Application Form

Objective
To support the creation, promotion, and evaluation of, and/or research on, new and innovative methods of faculty development to foster the training of quality teachers.

Selection
The Royal College Educational Research and Development Committee acts on behalf of the Awards Committee to assess proposals and name successful applicants.

Proposals to create new and innovative faculty development programs must, at a minimum, contain an evaluative component in order to be considered. Innovative pilot research projects focused on faculty development will also be considered. Although not a requirement, applicants are encouraged to seek matching funds from the participating university (ies). Preference will be given to projects that are generic, practical, applicable to postgraduate medical education, and relevant to the defined objective of the grant.

One or more grants will be awarded each year. Only one grant per year per principal investigator will be awarded.

Value
Up to $5,000

Applicable to projects scheduled to start in 2012 and of a maximum 12 months' duration. A final report must be submitted to the Grant Administrator, Office of Professional Affairs, Royal College, on project completion.

Budget
Budget and justification must be provided in a one-page outline. Budgets should not include salary, honoraria, travel, accommodation or meals for investigators; however, a maximum of $500 may be requested to defray the costs for travel, accommodation, meals or conference registration for investigators to disseminate the project findings. Please refer to budgetary guidelines appended to the application form. It is anticipated that supplemental costs may be assumed by the institution(s) directly benefiting from the project.

Dissemination
The publication of the success of faculty development activities is highly encouraged. The financial support of the "Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada" must be acknowledged in all publications and promotion assisted by this grant. Successful applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their findings as a workshop, paper or poster to the Royal College Annual Conference.
