The Royal College is pleased to offer our Québec colleagues an invitation to apply for Royal College Fellowship and certification. In February, 2011, the Royal College Council approved a motion inviting specialists who are certified through examination by the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) into Royal College Fellowship and certification.
For more than 20 years, the Royal College and CMQ have been working together in the production, administration and correction of examinations in specialties recognized by both organizations sharing the same educational objectives.
The harmonization of Royal College and CMQ examinations started in 2001 and was fully established in 2007. After 2007, any candidate wishing to obtain the Certified Specialist of the Province of Quebec (CSPQ) designation must pass the Royal College examination in his / her specialty.
Since 2008, the CMQ adopted new provisions to allow holders of a restrictive permit to “convert” this permit into a “full permit” after five years of practice in Québec, without having to pass a certifying specialty examination. Candidates assessed through this process are ineligible for Royal College Fellowship and certification through the CMQ-certified specialist route.
In order to be accepted into Royal College Fellowship and receive certification, you must meet the following criteria:
Success at a CMQ or Royal College specialty examination
Member of the CMQ only; current and past members and certificants of the Royal College are not eligible through this route at this time
Participation in the Royal College Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program
Payment of annual Fellowship dues
Comply with Articles 5 and 6 of Royal College bylaw No. 16
