A comprehensive, evidence-informed tool for lifelong learning

The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program is a continuing professional development program designed by the Royal College to support the lifelong learning needs of Fellows and Health Care Professionals. Introduced in 2000, the MOC Program demonstrates the Royal College’s commitment to the highest standards in specialty medicine, and is one of our core business offerings to Fellows.

MOC promotes excellence

Participation in the MOC Program is a requirement for admission and renewal of Fellowship in the Royal College — although health care professionals who are not Fellows may also participate in MOC. The MOC Program promotes excellence in all aspects of professional practice while putting participants at the centre of their professional development.

New MOC Program delivers a better user experience

As is the case with all our core business functions at the Royal College, the MOC Program has undergone a process of continuous improvement since its inception. Following an extensive study of Fellows, a review of continuing professional development literature and extensive consultations with key stakeholders, we launched a revitalized MOC Program in 2011 that delivers a more streamlined experience for users. It also incorporates an evidence-informed credit system that increases physicians’ choices for learning.
