The Royal College academic certification program is intended to assist Canadian faculties of medicine and universities in the recruitment of international specialists as full-time clinical faculty at the rank of associate or full professor, when recruitment of qualified Royal College certificants has been unsuccessful. The program, first introduced in 1967, has been amended from time to time to take into account changes in the Canadian academic scene.
Academic certification is considered temporary, in that it is contingent upon the physician maintaining a full-time academic post at a Canadian university.
There are two cycles of academic certification each year, in the spring and fall. Deadlines for the submission of applications are February 28 and August 31, respectively. The request must come from the dean of the relevant faculty of medicine, with appropriate supporting documentation and the non-refundable application fee.
For a full description of the program conditions and eligibility criteria, please refer to the policy on academic certification.
You can find the application form here. The current application fee is $4,840.
