Exam schedule and registration deadlines
For specialty disciplines, certification exams take place in the spring (March-April, May-June) and for subspecialty disciplines, exams take place in the fall (September-October).
The registration deadline for spring specialty examinations is January 13 of the year in which the exam takes place. The registration deadline for fall subspecialty examinations is May 15 of the year in which the exam takes place. Learn more about registration deadlines and fees.
If you miss a deadline
If you miss a registration deadline and are still eligible for the exam, you will have to wait until the following year. We will email you a registration notice, but it is your responsibility to adhere to the deadlines. If your eligibility has expired, you must apply to renew your eligibility via the Credentials Unit.
The deadline to apply for renewal of eligibility for the spring specialty exams is July 20 of the year before you wish to take the exam. The deadline to apply for renewal of eligibility for the fall subspecialty exams is November 30 of the year before you wish to take the exam.

The Royal College must have your current mailing address, email and telephone number(s) at all times. It is important that you email the Royal College or fax 613-730-3707 about any change to your contact information.
Please note the deadline dates indicated above, as we do not send individual reminders and there are no opportunities to register once the deadline has passed. We encourage you to visit our website frequently for up-to-date information.
Royal College exam fees are eligible for tuition tax credit
Exam fees and assessment fees paid to the Royal College can be claimed as a non-refundable tuition tax credit.
Tax receipts are issued for the year the examination is written, regardless of when the fee was paid.
