Become a Diplomate
If you have successfully completed a Royal College accredited Area of Focused Competence (Diploma) program, or AFC (Diploma), we encourage you to become a Royal College Diplomate or Diplomate Affiliate. Only those who maintain their status as a Diplomate or Diplomate Affiliate can use the designation DRCPSC (Diplomate of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada).
Physicians and surgeons who have been certified by the Royal College can join as Diplomates. Diplomates must also be Fellows of the Royal College. Diplomates can use the DRCPSC designation and the Royal College Fellowship designation (FRCPC/FRCSC).
Diplomate Affiliate status
If you have completed an AFC (Diploma) program but are not Royal College-certified, you can become a Diplomate Affiliate. Physicians and surgeons who have been certified by the Royal College, either before or after completing their AFC (Diploma) program, are not eligible for the Diplomate Affiliate category.
Becoming a Diplomate
After you complete an AFC (Diploma) program, you will receive information inviting you to become a Diplomate. This process involves completing a consent form and an agreement to pay dues.
Once you are signed up, you will receive information regarding Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program participation (if you are new to the program), an invoice for pro-rated dues, and a Diplomate certificate suitable for framing.
Why become a Diplomate?
Diplomates enjoy many Royal College benefits, such as eligibility to use the Diplomate designation (DRCPSC) and personalized support and assistance with MOC Program requirements.
