Recommendations for resident duty hours

In alignment with the report’s release in 2013, the National Steering Committee on Resident Duty Hours identified several key projects that would be necessary to facilitate implementation of the recommendations. They include:

  • Establishing a Fatigue Risk Management Plan (FRMP) toolbox for resident education
  • Evaluating the outcomes of implementing FRMP
  • Facilitating and overseeing studies specific to resident duty hours and a FRMP

Between 2014 and 2018, a project to develop a toolkit on fatigue risk management in PGME was led by Canadian Postgraduate Deans, Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC) and Provincial Housestaff Organizations with key input from multiple organizations within the medical education community, FRM industry expertise and researchers, residents and educators.
