We offer you and your faculty a wide range of workshops on medical education topics. Browse the list below for offerings.

Please note:

  • All of our workshops require a minimum of 3 months of preparation time. Please keep that in mind when booking.
  • All of these workshops are offered in English or in French.
  • We recommend a low participant-to-instructor ratio to maximize directed and inclusive learning.
  • All of our workshops can be adapted to your needs. This includes the topic areas, length of workshop, number of facilitators and learning objectives.

Workshop for Program Directors - Designing a great Residency Program
Designed for program directors who want to improve their residency program.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn about the role of program director
  • Gain an understanding of the Royal College International Program Standards
  • Learn how to integrate CanMEDS into your program
  • Learn how to complete the Royal College Program Questionnaires
  • Learn how to create a curriculum map
  • Learn how to develop a Residency Program Committee

Designed for program administrators/program secretaries who wants to improve their residency program.

Workshop for Surveyor Training
Designed for people who will become program reviewers and/or surveyors.

Learning objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the Royal College International Program Standards
  • Learn guidelines for reviewing a residency training program
  • Learn how to conduct a program review
  • Learn how to conduct a mock program review
  • Learn how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a program

This session is based on “best practices” in program evaluation/accreditation.

Fundamentals of Assessment Workshop
Designed for faculty who want to improve their assessment of residents.

Designed for faculty who will be developing examinations for residents.

Designed for faculty who want to improve their teaching of residents.

  • Learn about assessment tools to measure CanMEDS learning

Target audience: This workshop is designed for program directors who want to implement the CanMEDS Physician Competency Framework into their residency program.

Workshop for faculty and teachers - CanMEDS
Designed for faculty (teachers) who are involved in teaching and assessing residents on the CanMEDS competencies.

Target audience: This workshop is designed for faculty members (teachers) who are involved in teaching and assessing residents on the CanMEDS competencies.

Workshop for residents - CanMEDS
Designed for residents who will be learning about the CanMEDS competencies and will be assessed on their knowledge of each competency.

Learning objectives:

  • Review the CanMEDS competencies in detail
  • Learn strategies for teaching and assessing each of the CanMEDS Roles

Target audience: This workshop is for residents who will be learning about the CanMEDS competencies and who will be assessed on their knowledge of each competency.

CanMEDS Roles Workshops
Designed for senior faculty leaders who will assume responsibility for teaching other faculty members about specific CanMEDS Roles.

Each workshop will focus on one of the CanMEDS Roles.

Learning objectives:

  • Review the feature CanMEDS Role in detail
  • Learn practical teaching and assessment strategies for that Role 

Note: It is expected that the attendees for these workshops will take this material and either deliver similar workshops to their colleagues or be the “CanMEDS resource” for that role.

Target audience: These workshops are designed for senior faculty leaders who will assume responsibility for teaching other faculty members about the specific CanMEDS Roles.

Optimal number of participants: 20-30 people

Standard duration: 1 day per CanMEDS Role

Number of Royal College faculty members: 2 specialists
