Apply for Royal College accreditation of your postgraduate programs

If your institution has been accredited and a formal educational partnership is in place, you can apply for Royal College accreditation of any program that has had a consultation visit within the last two years and that you feel meets our international program standards.

The application process is multi-staged:

  • Step 1: Complete and submit an application form for the residency program you want accredited.
  • Step 2: A Royal College committee in your specialty will evaluate your application and make a recommendation to the Royal College International Residency Program Accreditation Committee.
  • Step 3: The Royal College International Residency Program Accreditation Committee will make one of three rulings:
    • New accredited program: Your residency program meets the Royal College general and specialty-specific standards and is accredited.
    • Defer: Your residency program meets most, but not all, of the Royal College general and specialty-specific standards. You have one year to submit a response providing evidence that your program is able to meet the standards.
    • No approval: Your program does not meet the Royal College general or specialty-specific standards.

Once your program is accredited, it will be placed into the regular cycle of review. The first onsite evaluation of your program will be two years from the date of accreditation.

Note: An annual registration fee is required for each accredited residency training program.
