Become a Royal College Diplomate

If you are a specialist physician or surgeon who has been deemed eligible for the Area of Focused Competence (AFC) credential, we encourage you to have your credential formally recognized by the Royal College by becoming a Diplomate.

Becoming a Diplomate

Once you are deemed eligible for the AFC credential you will receive an invitation from the Royal College to become a Diplomate. This process involves completing an application form and an agreement to pay dues. Only those who maintain their status as a Diplomate may use the designation of Diplomate or DRCPSC (Diplomate of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada).

Once you are signed up, you will enjoy many Royal College benefits, such as eligibility to use the Diplomate designation (DRCPSC), a Diploma suitable for framing and personalized support and assistance with the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program requirements. All Diplomates must participate in the Royal College’s MOC Program. Those not participating already as a Royal College Fellow will be enrolled as part of the Diplomate application process, and applicable fees will apply. Family physicians who are not Royal College certified and provide proof of participation in CFPC’s MAINPRO+ program are exempted from this requirement.
