I am honoured to be the chair of the Regional Advisory Committee for Quebec (RAC 4). I have been a RAC 4 Committee member since 2013 and a member of the Royal College Council since 2017.

I attended medical school at the Université de Montreal, completed my residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at McGill University and did post graduate clinical and research fellowships at the University of Toronto.

I am an associate professor of medicine at McGill and a cardiologist at the McGill University Health Center specializing in inherited cardiomyopathies. I am heavily involved in teaching and sit on several committees at the hospital and university level. I am fluently bilingual in French and English.

The Royal College has an important role to play in helping to maintain the high standard of medical education and care in Canada and indeed in providing leadership worldwide.

Canada being as vast and diverse a country as it is, good communication between regions is essential. At the end of the day, despite our regional particularities and our different provincial health structures, physicians across the country have much in common and all strive to deliver the same excellence of care.

I look forward to the opportunity, together with my RAC 4 colleagues, to represent the views and express the needs of our Quebec constituency to our colleagues across Canada and to ensure that the Royal College remains pertinent and works for us all and remains an institution we are all proud to be associated with.

I welcome questions and comments from Royal College stakeholders in French or English. The better your RAC members know your views and preoccupations the better we can represent you.

Principal roles of the Regional Advisory Committee are to:

  • identify regional issues relevant to the practice of specialty medicine, medical education, and health policy for action by the Royal College;
  • promote effective communication with regional members;
  • facilitate regional members’ ability to share their perspectives, strategies or solutions within areas of common interest;
  • support the continuing professional development of members through collaboration with regional CPD Educators and other regional partner organizations; and
  • identify and support the development of regional members with the experience, skills and expertise to serve in various volunteer roles within the Royal College.

If you have any questions or issues that you would like to raise, you can contact me at rac4chair@royalcollege.ca.
Note: RAC Chair email inboxes are monitored by Royal College staff.

Sincerely,
Eleanor Elstein, MD, CSPQ., FRCPC
