Learn about Royal College Canada International

Royal College Canada International (RCCI) has provided consulting services in approximately 40 countries to approximately 70 client institutions since its inception in 2010. It also marked an important milestone in 2019 when it launched the International Development, Aid, and Collaboration (IDAC) funding program. Through IDAC, over $600,000 in grant monies were provided to Fellows in support of their international aid efforts, with additional funding and projects to be announced in 2024.

“Providing our Fellows with opportunities to share their expertise with clients around the world through our consulting services and supporting their projects in communities in need through our IDAC program is truly rewarding,” says Craig Ceppetelli, executive director of the Royal College’s Office of International Collaboration and Advancement and chief operating officer of RCCI.

New name, same commitment

Commonly referred to as Royal College International (RCI), the non-profit, independent subsidiary of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada will now be using its original and full incorporated name, Royal College Canada International (RCCI), to better reflect that it is a Canadian organization in the global medical education community.

With international collaborations growing and becoming more important than ever before, including Canada in the organization’s name helps to further distinguish RCCI’s work from other international organizations who are also conducting their own collaborations in medical education.

“We have been known as Royal College International since we started our operations,” explains Mr. Ceppetelli. “We recognize that there are several organizations, some of which are other Royal Colleges for physicians and surgeons, that are conducting their own international consulting work from all corners of the world. Due to our growth and desire to distinguish our work from other organizations, we think it is important that we include Canada back into our name,” he adds.

RCCI has been giving back to the community of medicine since 2010 in response to Fellows wishing to adopt, integrate and promote the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s postgraduate medical education standards and lifelong learning in countries where they practise medicine or have long-standing relationships and connections.
