Fall into learning: Explore new and expanded opportunities from the Royal College

As summer winds down, fall is the perfect time to revisit your learning goals. Whether you’re just starting out or well into your specialist career, the Royal College has new programs and resources to support your professional development and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements.

Here’s what’s new this fall, from coaching webinars to platform enhancements:

My Learning: Releasing new channels and learning resources

Launched in June 2024, My Learning is the Royal College’s secure, centralized platform for instructor-led and self-directed learning. It brings together a wide range of educational resources, all accessible through your Royal College login.

Royal College learning activities are organized by MOC section to help you track credits, offering group, individual, and feedback and improvement learning opportunities. Curated resources are grouped into topic-driven channels that reflect key themes as well as your professional interests.

Current channels include:

Each channel includes a variety of formats to suit different learning styles, including podcast episodes, journal articles, webinars, virtual workshops and registration for in-person events.

New pilot project: Channels from educational content partners

In addition to Royal College content, a new pilot project is bringing content from six external continuing professional development (CPD) providers into the My Learning ecosystem.

These partners come from across the health care and medical education landscape, and their contributions give you access to a broader pool of high-quality learning activities, some of which may be outside your specialty or institution.

This pilot runs through September 30, 2025, and was co-designed with participating organizations to ensure alignment with Royal College standards.

We’d love your input. Use the My Learning Feedback form to tell us what you think of this new content and share ideas for future resources.

Peer coaching that fits your practice, and your schedule

Peer Coaching in Practice is a unique Royal College program that focuses on the tools and techniques of peer coaching in health care. Whether you’re curious about coaching or already coaching others, this program gives you the flexibility to choose how you want to engage — and the opportunity to “earn as you learn” with MOC credits.

The program is open to all Fellows and Resident Affiliates at no cost, and offers learning in multiple formats to suit your life and learning style:

New this fall: Fireside chat on “What is coaching?”

This September, Peer Coaching in Practice launches a new series of monthly webinars. The first session features a fireside chat with Gerald Fried, MDCM, FRCSC, and Sofia Valanci Aroesty, MD, PhD, two champions of coaching in Canadian health care. The session will explore the value of coaching as a skill, what coaching looks like in clinical practice and how to get started.

Sign up for the first webinar, which takes place on Sept. 18, 2025.

You can access the full suite of Peer Coaching in Practice content through the dedicated channel in My Learning.

MOC Learn and Connect: Practical guidance for lifelong learning

The MOC Learn and Connect Program is designed to help Fellows, Resident Affiliates, CPDers and partners understand how to apply the MOC framework in real-life settings, and how to use it to support meaningful lifelong learning.

The program includes two learning streams:

  1. General Overview — introduction to the MOC Program, the MOC Framework, and credit tracking system
  2. CPD in Action — deep dives into topics like coaching and feedback, with examples of Section 3 activities

The program shares learning resources with partners such as continuing medical education (CME) offices, medical regulatory authorities (MRA) and providers.

Webinars in the Learn and Connect series are recorded and available to access anytime via the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program Resources in My Learning. The program is continually refined based on feedback from learners.
