Opioids in Canada: A Snapshot


While prescription opioids are designed to help patients manage acute and chronic pain, in recent years there has been an increase in the harms associated with their misuse. Given the complexity of prescription drug abuse, particularly opioids at present, there is increased momentum toward comprehensive, collaborative responses from medical and other health professions, regulatory authorities, patient safety organizations, law enforcement and government at all levels.
