Matthys Michiel S. du Toit, MBChB, FRCSC, died on September 2, 2023, in North Saanich, B.C., at age 90. He was certified by the Royal College in Ophthalmology in 1968. Dr. du Toit obtained his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 1956. He practised Ophthalmology as a partner at a Calgary practice and then moved to Vancouver Island to establish his own practice where he worked until retirement. Read more about Dr. du Toit.

Ian Ralph G. Derby, MD/CM, FRCPC, died on September 26, 2023, in Toronto, Ont., at age 74. He was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1977) and Neurology (1978). Dr. Derby obtained his medical degree from McGill University in 1973. In Hamilton, he opened a private practice and worked at St. Joseph’s Healthcare. Michael Eric Joseph Hahn, MD, FRCPC, died on September 30, 2023, in North Vancouver, B.C., at age 71. He was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1984) and Gastroenterology (1987). Dr. Hahn obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1979. He dedicated his career to serving the community of North Vancouver at Lions Gate hospital where he worked for over 35 years. Read more about Dr. Hahn

Robert Ian Gordon Brown, MD, FRCPC, died on October 26, 2023, in London, Ont., at age 69. He was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1983) and Cardiology (1984). Dr. Brown obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1979. He became a pioneer in the emerging field of angioplasty. Dr. Brown was a beloved physician at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and Medpoint Health Care Centre in London. Medpoint’s cardiology clinic will be renamed in his honour. Andrew Tadeusz Jakubowski, MD, FRCPC, died on January 27, 2023, in Richmond, B.C., at age 68. He was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1985) and Cardiology (1987). Dr. Jakubowski obtained his medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw in 1978. Based out of Richmond Hospital, he was referred to as ‘Dr. J.,’ by patients who considered him an exceptional cardiologist and a kind, compassionate physician with a great sense of humour. Gwenda Jill Hutchinson, MD, FRCPC, died on July 29, 2023, in Wicklow Town, Ireland, at age 82. She was certified by the Royal College in Public Health in 1977. Dr. Hutchinson obtained her medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. She will be missed by family and friends. Read more about Dr. Hutchinson.
