Coaching to Competence

“Coaching to Competence” consists of 5 interactive online activities that allow you to practice applying the RX-OCR coaching process. The activities are meant to help you identify gaps in skills and knowledge related to coaching so that you can work to close these gaps through further practice, reflection and other learning opportunities. 

Coaching over Time

“Learn the Basics of Coaching over Time” is the first in a series of modules devoted to Coaching over Time. The module provides an understanding around this essential role and the value it adds for resident professional development. It also includes a video interaction that demonstrates the key components for successful Coaching over Time interactions.

The First Coaching over Time Meeting: Setting the Stage for Success

*NEW MODULE* “The First Coaching over Time Meeting: Setting the Stage for Success” [insert link to module when ready] is a module in the Coaching over Time series. The goal of this module is to prepare you for the critical first meeting with a resident and to help you set the stage for the coaching relationship over time. Eligible for Self-Assessment MOC credits.

Coaching over Time: Co-Creating Resident Learning Plans

*NEW MODULE* “Co-Creating Resident Learning Plans” is a module in the Coaching over Time series. This module helps academic coaches co-create goals and learning plans with their residents and identify barriers and enablers for engaging their residents in developing their individualized learning plans.

Entrustability Scales: WBA Rating Anchors to Trust

Want to learn more about how to apply the entrustability scale? The Entrustability Scales module is a self-paced online activity that is designed to help you practice differentiating between the 5 levels of the scale and applying the scale to your own specialty.

Case Scenarios: Mock Competence Committee Cases for Practice Deliberation

This activity provide direction and support for competence committee deliberations, including case scenarios for competence committee members to review and discuss as a group. These cases represent common issues/concerns that a competence committee may encounter when reviewing and discussing resident files. See the “Facilitator Guide” within the activity for more information on how to use this resource.

CanERA

Under the new Royal College postgraduate accreditation process, training, tools and support focus on ensuring an understanding of the changes to the accreditation system based on your role in the accreditation process, the ability to navigate and use CanAMS (the new digital accreditation management system), and familiarization with the new standards of accreditation. Accreditation-related training material can be found on the CanERA website.

Resident ePortfolio

New! Updated training modules now available

For programs using the Royal College Resident ePortfolio, access to an online training program is available to explain how you can use ePortfolio to view resident learning plans, record observations and review resident data by using the reporting functions. The training program has recently been updated with refreshed modules and a new, user-friendly interface to improve accessibility.
